Welcome to Pack 3741!Who we are:Cub Scout Pack 3741 is a group of 1st through 5th grade Scouts, their siblings, and their parents. Our chartering organization is St. Paschal Baylon Men's Club. Traditionally we have students from St. Paschal and Acacia Elementary Schools in our pack, but we have some scouts that attend other schools as well. The pack has been in existence for almost 40 years. We learn new things, see new things and have fun. Pack 3741 is run by the parents of our scouts. We all volunteer our time and talents. We ask that each family volunteer for some Pack level activity. This can be a big commitment, like choosing to be the Den leader, or a smaller commitment like helping out at one Pack event. All parents are encouraged to attend the parent/leader meetings to help plan Pack events. What is a Den?Dens are made up of a small group of up to 12 boys in the same school grade. We have dens from 1st graders to 5th graders. The dens usually meet once a week and work on items out of their Scout books to earn their Scout rank, and other Scout awards. Tiger Den: 1st graders and their parent/adult partners What is a Pack? The Pack consists of all the Dens and their families. The Pack meets monthly for a variety of activities. Pack meetings are for the whole family. Our most popular and traditional meetings are the Blue and Gold dinner in February to celebrate the birthday of Scouting and our Pinewood Derby races in March. Community Service projects are a big part of scouting, and all boys and parents generally participate. Every year the Pack does three service projects with St. Paschal's Men's Club. On the Saturday morning before Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas we meet at the church and pack food baskets. In February we also do what is called Scouting for Food. The scouts go door to door in an assigned neighborhood asking for food donations for the local food bank. The Scout Year:The Pack is active year round, while the Dens meet September through June. The Dens graduate in June and resume Den meetings when school begins again in September. Our Pack continues to meet for fun activities, once a month, during the summer. Applications and Money:Once you've decided to join our pack we will ask you to fill out a Boy Scouts of America (BSA) application for your scout. A Tiger Scout's adult partner and any other adult leader will also need to fill out an adult application. We will also ask for a check for $70 per (new) boy and $10 per adult leader and/or Tiger Scout partner. The $70 will go towards the cost of BSA registration, a subscription to Boys Life Magazine, a class "B" t-shirt, a neckerchief, and scout book, and awards your scout may earn. It typically costs closer to $80 a year for each Scout. The balance will come from our fund raiser and donations. The traditional Cub Scout fundraiser is to sell popcorn in the Fall, to friends and neighbors, relatives, co-workers, etc. Den assignment and leadership:Once you've filled out an application you will either be assigned to an existing Den of children in the same school grade or a new Den will have to be formed. A parent meeting will be held to determine when and where each den will meet. In the case of a new Den, parents will have to come forward and volunteer to be the Den leader and assistant Den leader for that Den. A Den leader must attend training put on by the BSA council. Most activities done at a Den meeting come straight out of the Scout book. Being a leader in not difficult but it is a commitment. No previous experience needed. Other leaders and parents can be of help to you - just ask. UniformsThe uniform varies by Scout level. All, except our Class "B" shirt, can be purchased at the Scout Store at 509 Daily Drive in Camarillo (805) 482-8938. Be forewarned, the uniform is expensive but durable.
